Italy is shaped like a boot, and Rome is in the lower left corner of this boot.
Hills
One thing Rome is famous for is its hills. It has seven famous hills, known as the seven hills of Rome. They are known as Palatine, Viminal, Quirinal, Esquilline, Capitoline, Caelian, and Aventine. They are spread all throughout Rome. Rome was originally built completely on the Palatine, but later expanded around the entire area. Today, Capitoline is the only distinct hill. Early Roman hills were Velia, Oppius, Palatium, Cispius, Sucusa, Fagutal, and Cermalus. Even though the hills are spreadout through Rome, most of them are based around the Tiber River.
Rivers
Rome is based along the Tiber River. The Tiber river runs through 252 miles of Italy. It is most famous for being the starting location of Rome. It leads into the Mediterranean Sea. It was chosen as the starting place of Rome because it is a river that provides plentiful water. It also has banks that provide trees with all varieties of fruit. There are also many other minor rivers. The Tiber River is said to be the place where the myth of Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, had the epic battle that resulted in Romulus killing Remus.
