Modern Day Rome
Roman Culture
A big part of Roman art culture is film making. Film making is very popular in Italy. There are many famous filmmakers that include Suevo, Rossellini, and Calvino. Roman food and drink is very different from the food and drink in America. The way they serve the food is also different than the way they serve food in the U.S.A. The normal way to serve meals in Rome, is to serve the meal without the meat on the plate. In Rome, it's uncommon to order pizza even though that pizza was invented in Italy. The only pizza that is commonly ordered in Rome is the flat bread pizza. The flat bread pizza is mainly ordered in the sections where tourism is most common. Another difference in Roman food and drink is that they eat almost every part of the animal. They eat the bones, cheeks, tripe, and intestines. Each region has its own variety of foods. As mentioned before, Roman pizza has a thin crust and a crispy base while Italian pizza has a thick crust with a soft base.
Roman Infrastructure
"Will anyone compare the idle pyramids to these aqueducts, these many indispensable structures?" - Unknown Roman Official. Probably the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of Roman infrastructure are the aqueducts. The Romans built over two- hundred aqueducts that delivered water to the rural places that included farmlands, baths, public areas, and fountains. The aqueducts were very advanced and required precise mathematics because there was a ten foot slope for every three thousand two hundred feet. This required advanced mathematics. A single Roman aqueduct could supply water to multiple towns at once. Roman aqueducts were so efficient, that 11 aqueducts could supply 11 great baths, 867 lesser baths, 15 nymph ea, and two artificial lakes. Roman baths were very similar to spas today. The fountains are like the drinking fountains. Another example of infrastucture are the famous Roman arches that made the aqueducts possible. Another great example of Roman infrastructure are the Roman roads. These helped trade by land a lot easier and comfortable. The roads were used for travel and trade. There were also resting inns at the sides of the roads so travelers could rest when nightfall came.
Roman Natural Disasters/ Climate
Rome is exceedingly hot during the summer which is why the baths were so popular because it was a place where friends could catch up on current events and cool off during the summer. During the winter Rome is chilly, but not that cold. During the spring, Rome has a mediocre temperature. Mount Vesuvius is still active today and you can still see the glow of the magma inside the volcano. In the past, there have been many earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and plagues that have been devastating to the population.
Roman Industry
The Roman industry is a very diverse one. There are many areas of industry in Rome. One of the biggest and probably the most elegant of all of these are in the clothes department. A big part of the clothes department is the Italian silk. Italian silk has been worn by some of the most famous people in the world and is among the highest quality clothing you can buy. Not to mention also one of the most expensive. There are many fancy dresses and suits that you can buy made from Italian silk. The reason why Italian silk is so popular is because it's one of the finest, softest, and smoothest clothing items you can possibly own. Another part of Roman industry is actually one that they invented. They invented glassblowing which made it into a part of their industry. Glassblowing is when you use a glassblowing pipe to create an amazing, beautiful, and intriguing sculpture made of glass. In the glass blown sculptures, there is a layer of glass inside another that is usually a different color. The outer layer is usually clear while the inner layer is colored. Roman industry has grown since the ancient times and has expanded to many areas that the ancients would have never even dreamed of adding.
Roman Technology
Since the ancient times Romans have been making new inventions and modifying other people's ideas to make them better and more efficient. There are many examples of this. Some of these are: arches, crossbows, cement, and new military techniques that led countless successful conquests. All these new things led to the creation of many amazing buildings that still stand today. The modification of arches and cement, led to the construction of permanent bridges, the Colosseum, aqueducts, and gateways that are still standing today and make an amazing sight to see. This is probably the most famous part of Roman technology. The buildings and all the technology are at the center of modern day Rome. There are many skyscrapers in Rome that required innovative technology to use.
